A Coruña is a favourable case in our database: of the 4 verified addresses, 4 are fully dedicated kitchens. Not one mixed table, not one “adapted” menu — no gluten-containing product is served in these four houses. Two Galician obradors, a patisserie-chocolate shop and a Neapolitan pizzeria: it is a short list, but it covers bread, an afternoon treat and a proper meal.

The two obradors: bread, empanadas and Galician pastry

Arca do millo, rúa Panaderas, in the old town, is the address to remember for local specialities: breads, empanadas and traditional Galician pastries are all made there without wheat. The official site describes it as “un obrador de panadería y pastelería 100% sin gluten y artesano”.

Amaranto Concept Store, rúa Picavia, is the most versatile place in town: bakery, patisserie, café and restaurant all at once, with its own artisan obrador on site. The company’s site and the local press (El Ideal Gallego, El Español) confirm a “100% sin gluten” space opened in late 2020. This is where you sit down without having to choose between savoury and sweet.

The sweet side and the pizza

chök, rúa Real, is the A Coruña shop of the patisserie-chocolate chain of the same name, entirely gluten-free, set up in the former Salamanca jeweller’s right in the centre. The opening was announced by the brand itself with the line “chök 100% sin gluten abrió sus puertas”, and the official site confirms the chain’s 100% gluten-free positioning.

Senza Glutine di Grosso Napoletano, rúa Emilia Pardo Bazán, is the “Senza Glutine” address of the Grosso Napoletano chain: a fully dedicated Neapolitan pizzeria, with a special dough and no gluten-containing product served on the premises. The chain’s official page is explicit: “Todos los productos servidos en este local son sin gluten”, “pizzas 100% gluten free”, “apta para celíacos”. This is the town’s evening meal — and you have to aim for this particular address, since the chain’s other establishments are not dedicated.

Our tips on site

  • Say “Soy celíaco” or “Soy celíaca”, rather than “sin gluten”. The word “celíaco” is the one that triggers real precautions in the kitchen.
  • Look out for the FACE logo. The Federación de Asociaciones de Celíacos de España is the national federation of celiac associations; it is the country’s reference marker, even though none of our four A Coruña addresses currently carries its certification.
  • Three addresses out of four are in the centre — Picavia, Panaderas and rúa Real are within walking distance of one another; the pizzeria on rúa Emilia Pardo Bazán means a separate trip.
  • Travelling on in Spain? Our guide to gluten-free travel in Spain covers the rest of the country.
